BRITISH PAINTERS OF XIX CENTURY EXHIBITED IN ROME AT THE CHIOSTRO DEL BRAMANTE
Coming from the Pérez Simón collection, 50 wonderful works can be admired in the halls of Bramante Cloister for an exhibition which, following the success in Paris , arrives in Italy and then will continue to Madrid: Alma- Tadema and the English painters of XIX century. Pérez Simón Collection is curated by Véronique Gerard-Powell.
From February 16th to June 5th, the visitors can re-appreciate or approach to the world created by the fathers of ”Aesthetic Movement” , which share similar trends, but each one of them has his own personality, his favourite theme, his personal style: from Millais and Rossetti , the “Pre-Raphaelite” fathers, to the younger Burnes Jones and the genius of Sir Alma Tadema and his paintings dedicated to the Greak Ancient World and the Imperial Rome (which inspired the mythological movies until the seventies), but also the works of Sir Frederic Leighton, pure academy in the best sense of the word; but also John William Waterhouse, able to combine the Impressionism style with the Pre-Raphaelite style, the painter of “The Crystal Ball”, Celtic legends and Britisch fairy tales.
