Between lakes and castles

This one-day itinerary goes around the lake of Bracciano, a lake of volcanic origin and second-largest of Lazio, leading you in the heart of its picturesque villages and its mansions.
It is possible to extend the program for 1 day, staying overnight at one of the hotels selcted by us.

Start is in Bracciano, the town that gives the name to the lake , with the visit to the imposing Orsini- Odescalchi castle (one of the best preserved castles in Europe) dating second half of the XIV century. Then , weather permitting, you can take a scenic trip by boat across the lake touching the other villages that border it. You can then have lunch in one of the popular local restaurants where you can taste the local cuisine . In the afternoon , if in the opening period , you will do the guided tour of the Botanical Garden in the estate of the Counts of San Liberato Sanminiatelli or , in alternative, you can visit the very interesting Italian Air Force Museum at Vigna di Valle. The museum houses more than 60 historic aircrafts in 4 hangars and a large collection of aero engines and memorabilia that tell , in chronological order , the history of military flight in Italy and that of the men who lived it . You will then continue to Anguillara Sabazia and the Natural Reserve of Lake Martignano and in the end to Trevignano Romano where you can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the beautiful lakefront . Return to destination.

Optional Extension: The 2nd day will start in the direction of Lake VICO (also of volcanic origins and natural reserve since 1982), after going to SUTRI, a former stage of the Via Francigena, where you can see fine examples of Roman times. In the afternoon we will visit the historic Palazzo Farnese in CAPRAROLA, with its pentagonal plan and its large park with spectacular fountains, waterfalls, sculptures and Italian gardens. At the end you can enjoy a food and wine tasting of the delicious local products.
